Since 1989, Sundance Montessori School has been providing excellent education in a safe, warm, caring environment, while recognizing and meeting the individualized needs of each child.
Our school consists of three primary classes, (one half and two full-day schedules) and one lower elementary class. We serve children ages 3-9, or preschool through third grade.
On our campus, you will also find a playground, library, children's garden, before and after school care, and a main office.
We welcome vistors and would be happy to answer questions and give you a tour of our beautiful school. All visitors must check in with the office before coming on campus, though. Please contact us for more information.
At Sundance, we also share in Maria Montessori's vision of providing children a foundation centered on peace. Dr. Montessori was trice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and in 1932 Dr. Montessori addressed the League of Nations in Geneva with these words:
"The Science of Peace, were it to become a special discipline, would be the most noble of all, for the very life of humanity depends on it. So, also perhaps, does the question of whether our entire civilization evolves or disappears."(Dr. Maria Montessori)
It is our goal to educate our children in a way that will support a peaceful present and a peaceful future for them and for all mankind.
Be sure to visit our beautiful Peace Pole, located at the front of the school, the next time you're on campus. You can read about our dedication of the Peace Pole HERE.
Promoting community between families and educators happens in many ways. Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in the school however suits them; they may have a special talent, skill, or cultural tradition to share. Donations of time in the classrooms or chaperoning on fieldtrips are also important. Sundance parents also participate in activities that promote school improvements, service projects and social activities.
The community spirit outside of our campus is honored as well. Our students take part in such charity fundraisers as the St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital Trike-A-Thon, and the development of an outreach program with a nearby convalescent hospital. We also explore ways to make our school a “green school,” by recycling, growing an organic garden, and composting.
Diversity in the needs of our students is not just recognized, but celebrated. Our school provides inclusion in all classrooms in order to recognize each child's unique abilities. Our sister program, Montessori Autism Programs and Services, Inc. (M.A.P.S. Inc.), brings together Sundance students and children with varying special needs. Children have the opportunity to interact in after-school "play groups" in which both children benefit and learn from each other.
